King becomes a celebrity, however, when Piniet requests his second book, he rejects King's manuscript and King reveals Luz helped him with it. The Emperor's minion subsequently blackmails Luz and Eda into eliminating Selkidomus, using the little demon as leverage. Through subterfuge, the Golden Guard believes the Beast to be dead and releases King after stating he smells bad anyway. King is also shown to be lazy, often lying around the house napping instead of working, and at times must be forced or blackmailed to do work, much to his annoyance.
King looked down to see Luz's poor butthole, every time he thrust forward the little demon noticed how nicely it winked at him. King dreams of the In Between Realm, hearing The Collector's voice and Emperor Belos' communication. King finds a snaggleback, who is hiding in a closet after a storm started, and he is eaten by the monster. King then finds Luz hiding in Eda's room and, after finding a label that went with the elixir, they realize the monster is Eda suffering from a curse. Luz's phone falls to the ground and the flash of the camera stuns Eda as the two hide and Luz throws a pot to lure it away. After a grueling battle against the tyrant, King, and his friends cut Belos off from the Isles, putting an end to his reign of terror. She reveals that Belos cannot stop the draining spell, and the only one who can is the Collector. Wanting to get back at Belos, Kikimora agrees to take King to the Collector. The Collector agrees to help undo the draining spell if he released them and promises to play games with them soon after.
However, upon realizing the true nature of his past, King shows a more insecure side of himself as the glamorous past he believed he once had was all a lie. Fortunately, after being reassured that he would still be accepted by his friends he remains friendly and jovial to everyone. After a period of introspection with Steve, King realizes that his true desire was for friends after all and decides to drop his monarch-like attitude, though he does remain a little arrogant. However, to his end he would sacrifice himself to save Luz and her friends in order to pacify the Collector and keep him occupied. King hates being called "cute" and having people treat him like a baby, but due to his small size, he has to rely on accessories designed for infants, such as a high chair and baby carrier. When Luz offered to stay to become a witch, King first wanted Eda to agree so she could make them snacks, and whenever he is against doing something, the mention of food can easily change his mind.
Luz and Lilith are in the living room, up to their heads in books. They are researching glyph combinations in hopes of covering new spells. Meanwhile, King is with his stuffed toys and tries to get Luz and Lilith to play along, saying Francois is trying to start a rebellion. King insists that he was the king of demons and recalls vague memories of his army, feasts worthy of a ruler, and falling from a massive height as an evil hex shrank him to the small critter he is now. Determined to prove Lilith wrong, King takes her and Luz, along with Hooty, on a trip to an uncharted island hidden in a fog.
